While almost all exit poll surveys projected an edge for the Mahayuti alliance, one pollster – Electoral Edge – predicted clear victory for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) bloc, comprising the Sharad Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Uddhav Thackeray camp of Shiv Sena.
With the total number of seats in the Maharashtra Assembly being 288, the majority mark that a party or an alliance needs to hit to be able to form government in the state is 145. According to Matrize projections, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is projected to win between 150 and 170 seats in the 288-member assembly.
